Hydrocarbon Refrigerants
Chemically speaking, a hydrocarbon (HC) is an elemental compound of hydrogen and carbon that occurs naturally in abundance. Consequently, when used as modern refrigerants, non-toxic hydrocarbons are primarily an ecological alternative to CFC/HCFC/HFC fluorocarbons, which are directly linked to ozone layer depletion and global warming.
Natural Refrigerant Group: Hydrocarbons feature zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and negligible GWP (Global Warming Potential), ensuring total regulatory compliance with the Montreal and Kigali Amendments.
The relative cost of a system using hydrocarbons largely depends on the application. In domestic and light commercial applications, system costs are similar to those of HFC systems. In commercial and industrial refrigeration applications, HC systems are highly cost-effective over their lifecycle due to significant electrical energy savings and lower operating pressures.
ECO-Freeze hydrocarbon refrigerants never contain toxic additives like R1270 or R1150.
Common hydrocarbon refrigerants include:
- R50 (Methane)
- R170 (Ethane)
- R290 (High Purity Propane)
- R600 (Butane)
- R600a (Isobutane)
- E170 (Dimethyl Ether)
To ensure total safety, hydrocarbon applications are regulated by leading international and regional standards, including IEC 60335-2-40, IEC 60335-2-89, ISO 5149, and EN378. ECO-Freeze strictly follows ISO9001 quality standards and UN1950 transport safety protocols.
